A theologically, historically, and philosophically rich course considering the great idea and practice of courtship and marriage. This course is offered for dual credit with Faulkner University.

Course Description

This course will use Great Books selections to expose the student to key ideas and issues in courtship and marriage. Readings may include, but are not limited to works from The Bible, Aquinas, Erasmus, Bacon, Austen, Homer, Plato, Lewis, Tolstoy, Aristotle, and Leon Kass. Using threaded discussions, written posted assignments, and online peer collaborative projects the student will develop thinking, reading, and communication skills.

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe and evaluate the thought of various theologians and philosophers on courtship and marriage
  2. Construct a philosophy on courtship and marriage based on the texts examined
  3. Discuss a variety of issues related to contemporary courtship and marriage and how they can be informed by the texts examined
  4. Demonstrate critical reading, thinking, and writing skills
