About the course

Latin was, for many centuries, the common language of the West. The influence of Latin to this day runs deep through the English tongue, to say nothing of the influence of Romance languages. Latin vocabulary permeates the modern sciences, law, and theology. Latin remains an important, and spoken, tongue.

If you love languages, history, poetry, etymology, or texts about sieges and self-immolations, this is the course for you. If you like the idea that you might actually learn to speak a bit of Latin, this is the course for you. If you’ve never studied Latin and wish to be not bored, this is the course for you.

This course uses Picta Dicta, which works off see it, hear it, understand it. The emphasis is to learn Latin as one would learn any other language, that is, as a language meant not only to be read, but spoken and heard.

Texts:

  • Picta Dicta, group purchase (ask Mr. Swait).
