About the course

Students will learn scripture verses in Japanese. They will also learn verb conjugations, and grammatical structures. The textbook that will be used for this class is called Minna No Nihongo Book 1. Students will develop a beginner reading and conversational ability which will lay the foundation for further study of the language.

Everybody will continue to use the Japanese 1 textbook. Students are required to read and write Hiragana and Katakana (Japanese alphabet). Students who have attended the previous Japanese 1 class are available to enroll.

Course Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to converse in Japanese and use the simple grammatical structures they have learned from this course.
  2. They will know how to have conversations from simple and concrete scenes to complex and abstract scenes, from easy sentence patterns to difficult sentence patterns.

About the teacher

Tomoko Sanders Tomoko was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, received her teaching credentials at KEC Japanese School, and earned a B.A in Japanese Linguistics at Osaka International College in 2007. She lives in Ogden, UT where she homeschools her two young children.
