About the course

Do you want the skills to evaluate the most common argument forms that occur in everyday argumentation? Would you like to learn the ins-and-outs of how the really tricky arguments work, ones that are missing a premise you just can’t put your finger on? Or maybe you read the classics and are curious about the way great thinkers of the past argued. If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions, then this course is for you.

Classical Logic is a course on the science of right reasoning and building arguments well. The aim is mastery and confidence with evaluating and applying the art and science of argumentation. Using the time-tested Traditional Logic I and II texts by Memoria Press, we’ll guide your student to master the categorical syllogism, the five most common syllogism forms, rare syllogism forms and how to reduce them to simpler forms, how to translate ordinary language to logical form for greater precision, tricky one-premise arguments, hypothetical syllogisms, classical argument forms, and the crown jewel of traditional logic, the Dilemma.

Required Texts
