About the course
This hands-on laboratory course offers highly practical instruction on rudiments of keyboard technique along with aural skills. Emphasis is placed on developing mastery in proper fingering of scales, navigating various keys and modes, and singing or speaking along using solfege syllables and other musical terminology. Suitable for students with or without prior keyboard skills.
Course Objectives:
The successful student in this course will master functional keyboard skills and terminology for beginning music theory. Upon completion, the student will be better prepared to enter, understand, and succeed in any beginning music theory course sequences. Suggested as a preparatory or corollary to any music theory instruction.
Texts or Required Materials:
- All required written material will be available online without charge.
- Each student will need to have regular access to a piano or keyboard for both practice and recorded performance throughout the semester.
About the teacher
Dr. Casey Christopher
Dr. Christopher has a B.A. of Music from University of Oregon in Eugene, and a Master of Music degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree both from Arizona State University in Tempe. He teaches music in Nampa, Idaho.
