I hail from the state of Missouri, where I live 60 minutes from Mark Twain's hometown and 30 minutes from where Winston Churchill delivered his famous "Iron Curtain" speech after World War II. (And my Scottish terrier is named "Winston" to boot!) I grew up in St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in broadcast journalism. I worked as a reporter and news anchor for several years until I had two daughters. I educated them at home from kindergarten through high school. After that, I worked as a teacher for a private Christian school. Later, I enrolled in the Circe Institute's Teaching Apprenticeship program and graduated from there in 2021. I have been working as an online instructor of rhetorical writing and classical literature for the past five years.

My loves are my God, my husband, my children, my stepchildren, and my grandbabies. I enjoy history, gardening, drinking black tea, hiking, and traveling. I love all things British and Irish, as well.

Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of education focuses on the fact that Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6) and that "Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:3). To me, one of God's greatest gifts to the world is language, which when formed and influenced well can elevate and bless individual human sould and the entire world. I believe that truth is knowable, and that the best education arises when all learners seek that truth in community and in conversation.My teaching style is a classical, Christian approach using mimetic instruction and Socratic discussion. My goal is to woo my students into seeking truth, goodness, and beauty so that they will desire to plant justice, grace, and goodness wherever life takes them. I pray for my students regularly.

Statement of Faith

I am an orthodox Christian believer, according to the principles stated in the Nicene creed. My family and I have attended the same non-denominational Christian church for more than 30 years.
