Introduction to Music
About the course
Course Description
This course is an introduction to music for non-musicians and beginners. It serves as an optional primer for the Music Theory, Analysis, and Composition courses. This course is designed for students who have little to no musical training. The goal is for them to become acquainted with the basic elements of music, music notation, the keyboard, and our musical heritage. It is different from Music Theory, Analysis, and Composition 1 in that more time will be spent on rudimentary concepts without advancing too deeply and quickly into the subject. Students will be given more practice assignments, lessons, and discussion time to help them become familiar with music notation, vocabulary, and abstract concepts.
