About the course

This is essentially a class of rabbit trails – a chance to talk about the sorts of things teachers and students usually want to talk about during class, but don't have time for. I’ll begin most classes by asking a question, but the hour doesn't have to be spent only addressing that topic – I envision instead a chance to ask follow-up questions, float theories, and explore other ideas. The discussion, and the class overall, will be firmly rooted in a biblical worldview, and while some of the questions may not seem to directly tie into Christian doctrine, be assured that questions of this sort, when answered honestly, can hardly help but proclaim the name of God in the end.

Disclaimer: I will not actually be sitting by a fire. My boss would be unhappy if I made a fire in the middle of the recording studio every week.

Example questions:

  • Do fairies exist?
  • Should modern art be considered art?
  • Should Christians not read books with magic in them?

Course Objectives:

Throughout the course, students will:

  1. Explore themes of art, science, literature, etc
  2. Gain insight into the connections between different areas of thought
  3. Further develop their abilities in Socratic dialogue
  4. Gain a deeper understanding of how seemingly non-religious topics tie, ultimately, into a distinctly Christian worldview
