This course provides an introduction to the basic principles of music, critical listening, and musicianship. Focus will be placed on identifying musical parameters, analyzing musical phenomenon, and appropriately articulating discoveries. Students should expect to be proficient music readers and conversationalists upon completing this course. In addition, this class will prepare students to process the history and rhetoric of music.

Course Objectives:

  1. Develop an analytical foundation for musical phenomena and a strong knowledge base for key musical concepts.
  2. Communicate effectively in musical language.
  3. Critically engage the craft of the discipline as a critical listener and performer.

Sean Bohnet Sean lives in Moscow, ID with his wife Rachel where he serves as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Idaho. He earned his B.A. in Music History from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX.
