About the course

This course will offer an in-depth reading of Shakespeare’s tragedy, King Lear. The play will offer a setting for discussion surrounding Shakespeare himself, the art of rhetorical poetics, monarchical politics, and family ethics.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, learners will:

  1. have a thorough understanding of the tragedy of King Lear
  2. identify the role of rhetoric within poetry
  3. be able to apply the microcosm of the play to the macrocosms of familial life and modern-day politics

Mary Patricia Rogers Mary Pat lives with her husband and two children in New Mexico. She has a Masters in English from the University of Dallas and a Bachelor's in English and Writing from McMurry University. She enjoys cooking, watercolor painting, and fern spotting.
