About the course
Photography for Art and Commerce 2 is the second of a four-semester sequence. The theme for Photo 2 is “Photography with a Purpose.” We will continue to learn the practice, history, technology, business, art and career opportunities available in photography.
Course Objectives:
Designed to build on the foundation of good photographic practice, Photo 2 students will learn portrait & product lighting, intermediate digital editing, business practices, portraiture, small product and event photography. Students will assemble a basic portfolio to showcase their work. In addition to creative and practical photography, student will adjust and edit their photographs with digital image editing tools such as GIMP and PhotoShop.
Photo 2 students will have opportunities to make expressive photographs. We will continue to learn the technology of photography from first principles of exposure, optics, light and color management. We will explore career options, how professional photographers specialize in areas such as forensics, architecture, science, graphic design, and advertising. Students will take notes during picture making assignments and write descriptions of their experiences. Students will learn about past and present photographers who have shaped the field. The class will follow the format of lecture, demonstrations, picture-taking assignments, digital image editing, research, presentations and constructive critique.
