About the course
A one year comprehensive presentation of algebra for high school students. This is a foundation course that is necessary for all math courses to follow. Lectures will actively involve students twice a week followed by homework and quizzes via MyMathLab Pearson products.
Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra (Pre-Algebra concepts such as integers, fractions, symbols and basic equations will be reviewed, taught, and tested during the first unit)
Course Objectives:
- To teach students a sufficient amount of algebra so that they will be prepared for future math courses and those science courses that require knowledge of algebraic processes. Topics include:
- Real Numbers
- Solving Equations
- Factoring
- Radicals
- Functions
- Equations of Lines
- Graphs of Equations
- Inequalities
- Exponents
- Polynomials and real world problem solving
- Math journaling will be incorporated to access student strategy and practice putting knowledge into words both verbally and in writing.
- Students will be able to think logically and develop problem solving skills through the successful completion of this course.

About the teacher
Amy Hale
Amy has taught mathematics for 20 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Accounting in 1996. Her first teaching job was working with gifted students from 7th-12th grade in the Grant Parish Louisiana School System.
