About the course

This class is designed to be a rigorous and engaging introduction to ancient (biblical) Hebrew. By the end of the course, students will be able to read portions of the Old Testament in Hebrew with aids. Students should expect to have a few hours of homework each week.

Course Objectives:

  1. Learn over 300 vocabulary words through Hebrew Picta Dicta, an exciting new tool that teaches vocabulary through beautiful, hand-drawn color images.
  2. Read a series of easy, illustrated Hebrew stories, including a retelling of the Book of Tobit. You will also read selections from the Old Testament with notes.
  3. Act out Hebrew in class using Total Physical Response
  4. Learn to answer simple questions in spoken Hebrew
  5. Practice grammar through composition

Graham Sommers Graham Sommers graduated with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Culture from New St. Andrews College where he learned to speak Latin and took graduate-level courses in Hebrew. He lives in Milwaukee, WI with his wife Hope.
