About the course

This course aims to study the language used by statesman such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and other presidents and British leaders during the 18th-20th century.

Course Objectives

  1. Consider the use of the English language in cultures different from modern America
  2. Analyze the methods of correspondence used by statesman
  3. Identify the formality, purposefulness, and voice in letters written by presidents
  4. Consider the messages of various correspondence in light of its purpose
  5. Contrast the language of modern statesman with that of classical or historical statesman
  6. Develop a fuller lexicon to utilize for various personal and professional purposes
  7. Appreciate the value of rhetoric used in everyday interactions
  8. Enhance one's emphasis on using language intentionally and for noble, virtuous purposes

About the teacher

Nick Moore Nick resides in the great state of Texas. He earned a B.A. in English Literature from Texas State University and an MBA from Liberty University. Outside the classroom, he enjoys pitching a tent, hiking, or kayaking with his son, Henry.
