Old Testament Survey
About the course
Individual Scripture-study is highly beneficial, but historically, it was often a communal undertaking to read and understand Scripture. This introduction to the Old Testament takes a unique approach in order to recover this vision of communal participation in the Word. Throughout the school year, we will meet twice a week to read and talk through the entire Old Testament together. Students will be able to ask questions as they come up, and each reading will begin with context and explanation of difficult concepts or words. In between classes, students will read a book and various articles designed to broaden the students’ perspective and methods for reading and understanding. The students will complete several short papers synthesizing what they have read, unpacking specific passages, and sharpening their skills in Biblical interpretation.
