About the course

Description

Designed for upper-level high school students (grades 10–12) with a strong foundation and/or interest in the natural sciences, this semester-long intensive course provides an overview of the major fields of modern creation science, including biology, geology, physics and astronomy, and related fields. This unique interdisciplinary science course is team-taught, offering students the rare opportunity to study these topics from three passionate science educators with long-term interests and expertise in each of these complementary disciplines.

Whether you are looking to dig deeper into the Biblical foundations of your introductory science coursework or round out your science training in areas you have yet to explore, this course will provide students with a broad, theologically rich introduction to the natural sciences from an unashamedly Christian worldview.

The materials in this course are presented from a young-age creation perspective that assumes: 1) the creation of all things in the span of a single work week consisting of six solar days (Genesis 1; Exodus 20:11); and 2) the historicity and global significance of the creation, fall, flood, and post-Babel dispersion (Genesis 1–11).

Objectives

1) Understand the core scientific concepts and theological foundations of the major fields of creation science.

2) Ground one’s understanding of science in the historical accounts of the creation, fall, flood, etc. found in the Bible.

3) Apply one’s knowledge of creation science as Biblically- and scientifically-literate Christians to current and future roles as students, lay apologists, clergymen, scientists, educators, parents/homemakers, etc.

Course materials notes

In addition to the print version of the textbook (link below) a digital eBook version of the textbook is also available: https://store.icr.org/creation-basics-beyond-2nd-ed-ebook.html

Additional readings will be assigned at the instructors’ discretion and will consist primarily of: 1) excerpts from science books written for a broad Christian audience and made available to students as digital documents by the instructor; and 2) technical and non-technical science articles/resources available for free online or made available as digital documents.
