About the course

A one year comprehensive presentation of Geometry for high school students. This course uses two and three-dimensional geometric shapes (points, lines, planes, triangles, polygons, circles, and solids) and examines their properties, measurements, and mutual relations in space. Geometric proofs are used as a vehicle to systematically develop these problem solving skills by relating geometric shapes. Lectures will actively involve students twice a week followed by homework and quizzes via MyMathLab Pearson products.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1

Course Objectives:

  1. Students will develop and practice problem solving skills using inductive and deductive reasoning.
  2. Students will move on to higher-level math courses with an increased ability to apply algebra to the solution of problems involving measurement, physical relationships, and logical proof. Topics include:
    • Points
    • Lines
    • Triangles
    • Polygons
    • Circles
    • Solids
    • Proportions
    • Similarity
    • Measurement
    • Proofs
  3. The ability to apply algebra to the solution of problems relating to geometric shapes.
  4. Math journaling to assess student strategies and communicate problem solving and its application to real life.
