Emily Morales

about the teacher

Emily has had a lifelong appreciation for science, teaching, and research. She graduated summa cum laude from California State University, Fresno with a BS degree in molecular biology and a minor in cognitive psychology. As an undergraduate, she conducted summer research in immunology, microbiology, behavioral and cognitive psychology, scanning tunneling microscopy and genetics - having published research in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, and co-authored a chapter on scanning tunneling microscopy. She just completed a master’s degree in education at University of Cincinnati, and is finishing up a certificate in apologetics from Biola University Talbot School of Theology.

With a passion for advancing Christian education as a means for training Christ's disciples of tomorrow, Emily desires to serve in every domain - whether it be teaching students, developing course materials for science instruction, or putting together pedagogical training materials for other educators.

Emily has had the joy of teaching and developing instructional materials for high school chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, anatomy & physiology, and pre-engineering classes over the last fourteen years and is thrilled to come to work at Kepler Education. The organic chemistry class she is offering has been under careful, systematic development over the past three years - specifically for online delivery - and was the subject of many of her projects while in graduate school.

During the summer of 2018, Emily applied for and was accepted into the Discovery Institute's Seminar in Intelligent Design program in Seattle, and was treated to nine days of high level science proffered through authors Michael Behe, Stephen Meyer, Ann Gauger, Luke Barnes, Richard Sternberg, Jonathan Wells, Jay Richards, Guillermo Gonzales, J.P. Moreland, and Brian Miller. Requiring two months of reading in advance from many books and peer-reviewed science articles, the seminar left her accepting - based upon the objective evidence - the necessity for a designing intelligence, in the creation of the Universe, the Earth, and origins of life. As a past Darwinist (having an extensive evolution library of nearly one hundred books), this evidence was crucial - having provided much in the way of design arguments she could not refute.

Last fall, Emily picked up a writing position for Salvo – A Magazine of Society, Sex, and Culture, contributing articles “debunking the cultural myths that have undercut human dignity, all but destroyed the notions of virtue and morality, and slowly eroded our appetites for transcendence.” Please feel free to check out her author page at https://salvomag.com/author/emily-morales.

Teaching Philosophy

To raise the steadfast disciples of tomorrow, who will inherit a world more uncertain than their parents, Christian education is an imperative. While the role of education is certainly to teach students how to perform calculations, to read well, write, and prepare them academically for life after high school, the single most important skill is that of higher level thinking - enabling students to recognize that worldly secular values are neither "neutral" or "unbiased."

As evidenced by the civil unrest of late, students must learn to think and act as free men and women, to resist throwing their intellectual lot in with the mob, and make an informed choice to pursue holiness. Such a choice is enabled with an objective and biblical worldview that underpins and unifies every subject - from the arts to the sciences.

Statement of Faith

Raised by a father who was a Marxist atheist, and a functionally agnostic mother, God, in his sovereign grace saved me as an adult, while happening to catch the broadcast of the Gospel by a local church. At the invitation in the end, my tortured autistic mind embracing the reality of a humanity lost and condemned, yet redeemed by the perfect sacrifice of the transcendental God-man, Jesus, and in recognizing my own condemned state acquiesced that the message seemed so very logical. This pronouncement and the prayer that followed changed my life and ultimately my husband's dramatically.

Our concern for the lost compelled us to volunteer work in Fresno County Juvenile Hall (in California) for many years, and to direct, choreograph and lead a young adult performing arts group to the college campuses of post-Christian, Hamburg, Germany. These many decades and two sons later find our family currently attending Redeemer Community Church (a Reformed congregation) in Loveland, Ohio. Whenever time permits, we love entertaining young people and sharing with them our many hobbies, such as woodworking, sewing, and other handcrafts.
