Debbie Reynolds
about the teacher
Debbie is a lifelong learner and home educator of 19 years. She and her husband Corbin traveled throughout the United States during his 21 years in the U.S. Navy. Upon retirement, they settled in west Tennessee where they currently enjoy living in the country and spending time with their three adult children and daughter-in-law. Debbie loves to vacation with her extended family, especially her identical twin sister! Upon becoming a Registered Nurse, Debbie worked for several years in geriatrics before diving into home education. When she discovered the value of the classical model of learning, she fully embraced it for six years as a home educator, and three years as a tutor/director with Classical Conversations. For the past two years, she has taught English to Chinese students using the VIPKID online platform. Debbie’s love for creation inspires her to draw her students into amazement at the intricate ways in which our Creator God has fashioned all that surrounds us.
Teaching Philosophy
“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” (Henry David Thoreau). Indeed, God’s fingerprints are evident everywhere. My desire is to teach in such a way that each student becomes a lifelong learner of all that the Lord has spoken into existence. Teaching is not simply a lecture; education is not solely comprised of students pouring over textbooks and scripting essays. Rather, learning happens when we prayerfully embark on the adventure of receiving information and ask ourselves questions based on five core topics: Definition, Comparison, Relationship, Circumstance and Testimony. What is X? How does X compare to Y, or Z? What is going on in the world during the time of X? What are the causes and effects of X on other things, people? What does the Bible say about X? By asking questions and searching for answers, students are led into dialogue abounding with truth, new ideas, and fresh knowledge of the world around us. Instructing young minds in science means embracing the opportunity to share with students the amazing ways that our Creator God reveals Himself in every living thing, and then- giving HIM all the glory and honor and praise.
Statement of Faith
I believe in the sovereignty of Scripture as God’s inspired Word to man, the sanctity of human life, and the lifetime commitment of marriage between one man and one woman. Prayer is the key to open each new day, and the lock for every evening. Daily, I strive to walk in the steps of Jesus, reflect the goodness of our Heavenly Father, and rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance. Daily, I stumble and fall, and I am eternally grateful for the grace and forgiveness that is offered to me through the blood of Jesus Christ. Currently, my husband and I worship, study and serve with the Bartlett Woods Church of Christ.
