French 1: The Language and Culture of France
About the course
This unique beginning French course will cover the standard vocabulary, grammar, and conversational elements of a typical high school French 1 course, and will as well give you a brief overview of the history, geography, culture, and gastronomy of France. From the first day of class on, you will begin reading French through the phonetic method. The teacher’s husband, native-speaker and Pastor/former Chef Francis Foucachon, will make guest appearances to support oral work, and will occasionally take you into the Foucachons’ kitchen for a French culinary adventure. The student will be expected to do regular homework as well as practice orally with the videos the teacher will regularly supply throughout the course.

- To learn to love the French language
- To be able to read it
- To acquire a beginning knowledge of its grammar and vocabulary
- To converse using the simple elements the student has learned
- To catch a long-term vision for future fluency
- And to begin to understand and love the French people

- Used books will be sent to you by the teacher on a loan basis (to be returned at the end of the school year).
Note: This course is for grades 9-12. Motivated students in grades 7-8 are welcome upon approval.
