About the course

This course is an introduction to French and to French culture. We will learn essential grammatical points in order to understand the structure of the French language. We will also build a fundamental, thematic vocabulary used in different contexts and situations. We will have constant opportunities to speak, write, read and listen in French through varied and engaging activities that will increase your confidence and your competence in French. The course will also have a cultural component as we look at the rich culture and history of France and of other countries of the world where French is spoken.

Course Objectives:

The course objectives are twofold:

  1. First, to develop an appreciation for the French language and to acquire a solid knowledge of French in the first year in order to prepare students for French II the following year
  2. Second, to become familiar with and develop an appreciation for the French culture and for the cultures of the French-speaking countries of the world.

About the teacher

Dr. Christian Fantoni Dr. Fantoni was born and raised in southeastern France. He studied English in Toronto, Canada, and eventually earned his Ph.D. in French Renaissance Literature from the University of Paris III–Sorbonne Nouvelle. He is married with three children.
