About the course

Invest wisely in your child’s future. This course is designed to systematically walk students through a thoughtful, deliberate and proven process of discovering God’s purpose for their lives. Pupils will first understand what God says about their gifts and talents. Equipped with this knowledge, they will research careers or trades in which their gifts and talents can be maximized, or colleges and post-graduation training best suited to their chosen field. This research will culminate in an essay summarizing their research and conclusions. Upon completion of this course, the student will be set on the path of the career and/or college which is satisfying to them, a wise investment of parent’s resources, and using the gifts and talents God has given them. A separate ACT Preparatory Course will be offered in the second semester to help students prepare for and improve their scores on this college entrance exam.

FINISHING THE RACE, How to be Accepted into and Pay for College, Renee Janzen. Parents and students will receive a copy of this valuable and practical article upon enrollment.

ACCEPTABLE GIFTS, Identifying Your God-Given Gifts, Renee Janzen (6 weeks)

The goal is within sight. The prize you have been striving for is nearly yours. Graduation. Ceremonies to commemorate your accomplishments will be held, speeches delivered to applaud and encourage you, and gatherings to celebrate your achievements will be attended. Roads leading to all the world will open to you. Before and during and after it all, decisions will be made. You will need to select which avenue you will set your foot upon. Some roads may lead to fame, some fortune, some to yet another destination. Will you attend college or pursue another avenue? If college, which one? What major will you choose? What career will you embark upon? And over there, some distance away, lies the smaller, less travelled Road of Faith. You expect your road will run parallel with it, or at least you will be able to keep within sight this modest Road of Faith.

May I suggest another route? What if a path leading you to a fun and fulfilling college experience and a rewarding career existed? What if this same course was also a Road of Faith? What if your first-choice college, the career of your dreams, and your entire future doubled as your ministry? If this sounds improbable, know this is the Father’s intention for all His children. He has given you talents, abilities and gifts that will direct you toward a career, serve other Christians, and satisfy you more than you can imagine. Does this news energize you? If you journey diligently and consistently through this voyage, you will come away with an understanding of the marvelous way God intends each of us to function as part of a whole, as part of something bigger than ourselves. You will also be able to confidently walk down the highway He has opened for you.

On this expedition, we will tour three passages. In each, you will see amazing detail of the spiritual gifts: who gives them, who receives them, what they are, and when and how they are to be used. So buckle up and let’s begin our trek through the first passage.

ADD TO YOUR FAITH KNOWLEDGE, How to Choose a College and Career, Renee Janzen (10 weeks)

You are standing at the threshold of adulthood. Finally! One of the privileges of adulting is making your own decisions. You will make your own choices about when to go to bed, what to eat, and with whom you hang out. Yet, a wise man or woman never makes their decisions in a vacuum. As followers of Christ, we have the privilege and the responsibility of asking God for His guidance and direction in our lives. Also, no matter our age, He has placed in each of our lives people who are more experienced and who can offer us wisdom and council. While taking advantage of both of these resources, we also must take the responsibility of educating ourselves of the facts. We must base our decisions on knowledge. In what future decisions are you short on knowledge? Are you lacking important information about the colleges on your short list? Perhaps you need to choose a college major. Do you need more data about career choices? This project provides you an opportunity to fill in those gaps and make responsible, educated decisions which will direct your future down a successful path.
