About the course

This course will build on the fundamentals of grammar and essay writing. The first 16 weeks of the class will make use of various reading and writing assignments in order to master the intermediate principles of grammar. The student will study mood, objective complements, clauses, sentence diagramming and sentence structure, among other topics. During the second 16 weeks of class, the student will then apply these principles to larger pieces of writing. The focus will be on organized and logical composition with a strong thesis and argument. The student will also continue practicing citation and bibliography guidelines.

Course Objectives:

  1. Master advanced grammatical principles such as substantive nouns, mood, and more.
  2. Understand sentence diagramming and structure.
  3. Develop effective writing strategies to produce cohesive, organized, and logical essays.
  4. Produce a substantial book review and informative essay.
  5. Master more advanced citation and bibliography practices.
