About the course

Course day and time to be determined.

This course is an extended introduction to the Russian language that would include familiarisation (and hopeful mastery) with the Cyrillic alphabet and Russian phonics. The course will progress onto ordinary beginner topics, such as Basic Introductions, Family, Daily Routine, Holidays, etc.

My teaching philosophy draws heavily from Gianfranco Conti's EPI (Extensive Processing Instruction) model of language-learning (https://bit.ly/3BH5316) - what this means is that my students will learn Russian in a brain-friendly way that ensures subconscious acquisition of the language, instead of simple textbook progression.

Course Objectives

By the end of the Beginner's Russian course, students will be:

  • confident listeners and speakers of the Russian language to a pre-intermediate level (by year's end).
  • skilled and enthusiastic readers, who can decipher the Cyrillic alphabet at a decent speed from a variety of texts.
  • passionate about lifelong learning with knowledge about the cognitive science (and practical mechanics) of memory and language-learning.

Texts

  • various

I will be setting Memrise, Duolingo, and Quizlet as ongoing learning-support apps.
