About the course

You don’t need to like writing, but you do need to know how to competently express yourself in writing. Why? Because you will be writing in some fashion your entire life. More specifically, you will find all of the material covered in this class on college entrance exams! So, you might as well be comfortable with it. If you are someone who enjoys expressing yourself in written words, this course will help you become an even better writer.

Course Objectives:

Because Ms. Janzen is experienced in teaching each student at their individual ability level, this course is appropriate and beneficial for all age and writing levels. Through gentle and gradual guidance, students will:

  1. Learn and write 4 different types of essays or paragraph,
  2. Learn and apply note taking skills,
  3. Learn and apply various methods of organizing their notes and thoughts,
  4. Understand the use of parts of speech within a sentence,
  5. Learn and apply proper sentence structure,
  6. Learn and apply proper paragraph structure,
  7. Learn and apply variety in writing style,
  8. Learn and apply proper syntax (grammar) in their writing,
  9. Learn and apply self-editing.

About the teacher

Renee Janzen Renee home educated her four children and taught in Christian and Classical contexts for 30 years. She earned a B.S. in Social Work from Indiana University in 1979 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa, School of Law in 1983.
