about the teacher

I live in central Pennsylvania with my husband and youngest five children. (My oldest two girls are married with a couple little ones each.) We have educated our children at home for most of their educational careers thus far, and along the way I have also taught professionally both in brick-and-mortar schools and in cyber schools. I have taught virtually all subjects, but absolutely love English/Language Arts and History. When these can be combined into coursework along with a Christian foundation and worldview, we have the best of each! I also love teaching Economics and Personal Finance. Not only can this be extremely fun, it is very necessary and practical for each individual as they look toward independence. My passion is to instill a love of true learning into middle and high school students, while simultaneously growing in each person the discernment that is so very vital in today's world.

I have earned a B.S. degree in Theology and Education, and an M.A. degree in Theology and Counseling--both from Clarks Summit University. I am currently working toward a second Master's degree, an M.Ed, with expected completion in 2021.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God are foundational to all good education, and this principle is the same no matter the subject at hand. I have taught in schools where we attempted to "integrate" Christian beliefs into the subject matter; yet I believe this is completely backward. My teaching goal is to reflect Jesus Christ in both the materials presented and the methods of presentation.

Further, I believe that my role as a teacher should never rise above that of the parents in the home. I am a teacher to come alongside the parents, aiding in the educational goals of the family. My commitment to students and parents will be to present carefully prepared materials in an interesting and engaging way, using a variety of methods; to give clear objectives, policies, procedures, and expectations; to give consistent and timely feedback for work submitted; and, to give fair and timely assessments to monitor progress.

Statement of Faith

I am a follower of Jesus Christ and am committed to historic, reformed Christianity. I believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we (as a family) base our doctrine and principles for living solely on the Word of God. I, along with my family, am an active member in good standing at Christ Church, an Evangelical Free Church, located in our hometown of Beaver Springs, PA.
