Photography for Art and Commerce 1

Photography for Art and Commerce 1 is the foundation course in a 2-year Photography program. The four one-semester courses teach the practice, history, technology, business, art and career opportunities available in photography.

Course Objectives:

1. Students will learn the basics of photography with opportunities to make expressive photographs.

2. We will learn the technology of photography from first principles of exposure, optics and light.

3. We will explore career options and how photography is a strong adjunct to other careers such as forensics, architecture, science, graphic design, and engineering.

4. Students will take pictures with digital cameras, select their best pictures, and learn critique.

5. Students will take notes during picture making assignments and write descriptions of their experiences.

6. Students will learn about past and present photographers who have shaped the field.

The class will follow the format of lecture, demonstrations, picture-taking assignments, digital image editing, research, presentations and constructive critique.
