About the course
This course will be a year long offering in which the students will take a deep dive into Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. Each week students will read a section of the text and submit two reading questions for class discussion. Russian literature presents readers with a tension between people and events. Throughout The Brothers Karamazov students will interact with this tension and how it affects each character in the story. Students will also wrestle with philosophical and religious questions. These questions will allow for engaging class discussions that will show students that literature can help a person understand and contemplate life’s most important questions.

- Gain an understanding of great literature.
- Connect philosophical and religious ideas within a literary text.
- Gain a practical understanding of close reading skills.

Andrew Chaney lives in Cookeville, TN. He holds an M.A. in English from Tennessee Tech University. His research interests include literature, music, and biblical culture. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in humanities through Faulkner University.
